Photographic Memory

As I mentioned in my recent post Pack Your Sketchbook, I enjoy bringing home personal, visual souvenirs from my travels. I prefer a souvenir that isn’t the cookie cutter tourist-y items that the (insert your destination city here) locals sell you. However, the souvenirs I enjoy are something you can create that will last much longer than the standard I Love NY tee.

That being said, bring your CAMERA. Take pictures, shoot video, capture memories and remember the good times because unlike the title of this post, most of us do no have a “Photographic Memory.” I try to capture as many photos as I can without compromising the trip itself. On my recent trip to New York City, New York I brought along two cameras. The first being a Canon 5D (Thanks Ed) and the second was my good ol’ Canon G10. If you want some good pointers about what to pack in your camera bag… read Ed’s post. If you don’t have a fancy DSLR or a high end point and shoot, use what you have. The quality of the photo doesn’t matter as much as actually capturing the memories.

I could go on and on about the benefits of packing your camera. Instead, I’m going to let some photos from my recent trip to The Big Apple do the talking:

  1. Love this!!! And I totally agree, all of my fave 'souvenirs' are things I either shot with a camera or picked up at random (like coasters / fliers from cool bars, etc.). One thing I wish I was better at – taking and stitching together panoramic shots. A skill to work on 🙂

  2. Maybe I should make a post on how to do a panoramic… Great Idea! I took a panoramic in Central Park and will be adding it to Flickr at a later date. I appreciate the kind words!

  3. Great pics, Ben! It 's super hard to capture the "hustle and bustle" of NYC. You did it well!

  9. A robbery at a Florida Bank of America has turned into a hostage situation. Police responded to reports of a robbery at the South Dixie Highway branch of Bank of America in Coral Gables Thursday morning and found a man holed up inside, with at least one hostage, local station WSVN reported. The man claims to have a bomb, the station reported. Coral Gables police told Fox News the county Bomb squad was on scene. There was no indication of how many people were in the bank, WSVN reported. Coral Gables police Sgt, Janette Frevola told another local station, WFOR, that she believed police made contact with someone inside the bank. According to the Bank of America website, the branch opens for drive-up banking at 8 a.m., but does not open for regular banking until 9 a.m.It’s unclear how the alleged robber was able to enter the bank. Police sources told WFOR that at least one, possibly two masked suspects, gained access to the bank before it opened. The Bank of America building is directly across the street from the University of Miami campus and reportedly houses other businesses on its second and third floor. No information was available on the status of anyone in those offices. The school has alerted students and staff to the situation and urged them to avoid the area.

  10. Lindsay Lohan seems so far removed from reality that she will publicize her own clothing line on her way to court Sept. 24. The 24-year-old actress wore her 6126 clothing line, sporting a black 6126 blazer, which she also paired with an innocent white skirt and black lacy top. We’ll admit, she looked good — but she dressed more like she was going out to one of her usual night haunts, rather than appearing before the law. Clearly, her promiscuous choice in self-designed clothing didn’t sway the judge…and now she’s in an orange jumpsuit until Oct. 22! Are you going to do what Lindsay can’t, run out and get some of her 6126 court apparel
